Loxley Volunteer Fire
Department
The Loxley Volunteer Fire Department has 34 adult
members and 12 explorers from 14 to 17 years old. The explorer
program allows a student to get involved, train, and be part of
the excitement that comes with helping people. They are not allowed
to fight fires or operate the Jaws of Life.
LVFD,
originally started in 1964, is strictly a volunteer organization
dedicated to keeping the citizens of Loxley safe. The chain of
command is Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, Captain and two Lieutenants.
Outside the chain of command other officers include a Chaplain
and a Public Information Officer.
The original fire station was located on Holly
Street close to the town’s original water tank. In the 1970s,
the building next to the station was included as the business
center of the department. In 1997, the town built the first of
two state of the art fire stations on Railroad Street. The building
has six bays, a large training room, offices, restrooms and a
kitchen. The building also houses a second floor where up to 24
fire fighters can sleep. It took 1 1/2 years to complete it.
The Railroad Street Fire Station holds two fire
engines, a ladder truck, a service truck, a firefighter transport
vehicle, two command vehicles, and a brush truck. The building
is also designed to house many more items necessary to fight fires.

The vehicles of Station #1
Many of the citizens of Loxley don’t realize
that we have two fire stations. Station two was built outside
the gate of Steelewood subdivision. This station is a three bay
facility that holds a fire engine, a service truck and a brush
truck.
The Loxley Volunteer Fire Department responds
to approximately 425 calls per year in the Loxley area. The fire
department depends on the availability of its members to adequately
perform its mission. There are times, however, specifically during
the work day, that the department has a difficult time having
firefighters respond to fires. The department is looking for additional
firefighters to help the cause. If you or someone you know would
like to contribute to the public good, enjoy a camaraderie rarely
seen outside public service groups, walk a level of excitement
only tempered by the phenomenal training, and participate in something
that is considered one of the finest hobbies in the world, give
us a call or stop by the Fire Station on Thursday nights, our
training night, and we will sign you up.
The officers are:
Fire Chief Tim Curry
Assistant Fire Chief Robert Wright
Captain Raymond Lovell
Lieutenant Kenny Ebarb
Lieutenant Gaven Fells
